As a rice farmer, I am deeply connected to the land that nourishes not only my family but also many communities in Guyana and beyond. Living along the Coast 175 Old Road, I cherish the vibrant culture that surrounds me. The sounds of the Pomeroon River echo the laughter and stories of our people, much like the lively discussions you’d find at any local market or during festivals like Mashramani. I often find myself reminiscing about the days spent sharing meals with family and friends, where each bite is a taste of our Indian, African, and Indigenous roots. It’s these experiences that shaped my identity and instilled a sense of community pride in me, driving the passion I have for both farming and family.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of maintaining our cultural ties, even from afar. Whether it’s through sharing recipes or connecting with fellow Guyanese around the world, I’m committed to preserving our traditions. Like many, I often find myself answering questions about my home, and yes, Guyana is often affectionately referred to as "Mini India" due to our vibrant Indian influence.
