Greetings! My name is Lakeram Parboo, and I proudly hail from the beautiful Upper Pomeroon River Grant New Found Land in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a dedicated rice farmer, I am passionate about cultivating the land that has been the backbone of our community for generations. Rice farming may have its challenges, but it is a vital part of our culture and economy, and I take great pride in contributing to our nation's food security.
Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I have always been fascinated by our rich heritage. From the majestic Kaieteur Falls—the world's longest straight drop waterfall—to our lively festivals that celebrate our diverse ethnic backgrounds, there’s a wealth of traditions that bind us as a people. I also cherish the delicious flavors of our local cuisine, whether it's a hearty plate of cook-up rice or the sweet treat of guava cheese, which reflect our unique Caribbean identity.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I believe in the importance of staying connected with our roots, and I am always eager to share our stories and experiences. I often engage with fellow Guyanese, whether it's reminiscing about our beloved “uncle and aunty” culture or discussing the impact of our country's development on our communities.
