Greetings from Hall Essequibo Coast Public Road Bounty! I’m Gaston AJ Peters, a proud Guyanese seaman navigating the waters of life both on and off the sea. Growing up near the majestic Pomeroon River, I have always been surrounded by the rich cultural tapestry of Guyana, from the vibrant sounds of calypso music to the tantalizing aroma of a good curry. Our diverse heritage, shaped by Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences, is something I carry with pride, whether I’m enjoying a plate of pepperpot or sharing stories about my homeland with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora.
My journey has taken me beyond our beautiful shores, connecting me with the global Guyanese community. I often find myself reminiscing about the laughter shared over a plate of cook-up rice or the lively discussions at local gatherings. If you’ve ever heard someone say “Go study your own fish and chip island history,” you know how fiercely we defend our identity! Each time I meet someone from home or hear them reminisce about St. Monica or the unique pronunciation of our names, it brings a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart.
