Hello! My name is Glenda Shew, and I proudly call Essequibo Capoey Lake my home. Nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, I find joy in the simple pleasures of life—cooking traditional dishes that bring the warmth of our culture to my family and friends. Whether it’s a plate of pepperpot or a hearty serving of dhal and rice, I believe that food is the heart of our community. As many say, “Only in Guyana, the food is heavenly,” and I strive to keep that spirit alive in my kitchen.
Being a housewife allows me to nurture my family while also embracing our rich cultural heritage. From the vibrant festivals that celebrate our diverse roots to the serene beauty of our landscapes, like the Upper Pom River, every day offers a new opportunity to cherish our Guyanese identity. I often reminisce about our local Chinese food, which, as many in the diaspora agree, holds a special place in our hearts. I love connecting with fellow Guyanese abroad—whether it’s through sharing recipes or stories about our homeland.
As I engage with the world beyond our borders, I carry a piece of Guyana with me wherever I go. I cherish the friendships made and the memories shared, reminding myself that no matter where life takes us, our small yet vibrant country is always close to our hearts.
