Hello! I’m Gomattie Prince, a proud resident of Bank Demerara I along the scenic conservancy dam of Guyana. Living here, I’ve been fortunate to experience the beauty of our lush landscapes, from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the vibrant streets of Georgetown. As someone who has traveled across our diverse country, I can confidently say that every region has a unique story to tell, whether it's the rich history of the sugar plantations or the vibrant culture of our Amerindian communities.
Food is a huge part of my life here—I can’t resist a plate of pepperpot or some freshly made roti with curry. These flavors remind me of the warmth of family gatherings and the connection we maintain with our roots, even as many Guyanese have spread across the globe. Our culture is a blend of influences, and it’s heartening to hear from fellow diaspora members who share memories of their ancestral lands, like India, and the incredible journey that has shaped our identities.
As part of the Caribbean community through CARICOM, I embrace the shared history and connections with our neighboring countries, like Trinidad and Barbados. Although there’s often debate about our identity, I know that each of us carries a piece of Guyana with us, no matter where we roam. I’m here to celebrate that spirit and foster connections within our community, both locally and abroad.
