Hello! My name is Hansen Cox, and I proudly call Pom River Grant Little Diamond in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a labourer, I take pride in contributing to our vibrant community, where the river and rich soil sustain not only our livelihoods but also our culture. The lush landscapes here remind me daily of the deep connection we have with our environment, from the sweet taste of ripe mangoes to the serenity of fishing along the Pomeroon River.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the warmth of our diverse culture. Being Guyanese means celebrating our heritage, whether it’s sharing a meal of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying the festive vibes of Mashramani. I’ve also embraced the stories of our ancestors, including our proud Guyanese Chinese community that has been here since 1834. These shared experiences and traditions keep us connected, not just within Guyana, but also with our diaspora scattered around the world, from Brooklyn to beyond.
As I continue to work and live in this beautiful part of the world, I look forward to sharing our unique culture with others.
