Hello! My name is Jagdesheer Roopchand, and I proudly hail from the Essequibo Coast, specifically Pomona in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I have always cherished our rich culture—from the warmth of our people to the tantalizing flavors of our beloved dishes like pepperpot and metemgee. Although I now work as a labourer, my heart remains deeply connected to my roots, and I carry the spirit of my homeland with me wherever I go.
Having spent many years in the diaspora, I often find myself reminiscing about the beauty of the Essequibo River and the bustling markets where you can find everything from fresh fish to artisanal crafts. My experiences abroad have given me a unique perspective on the challenges and joys of being Guyanese. I have seen both the struggles of our country and the resilience of its people, and I continue to hope for a brighter future for all of us, especially in light of the recent developments in the nation’s economy.
