Greetings! My name is James Tobin, and I proudly hail from River Grant Faith, Siriki Upper in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a dedicated labourer, I take pride in contributing to my community while embracing the rich cultural heritage that surrounds me. Growing up here, I’ve always been close to the land and its resources, whether it's helping to harvest the fruits of our labour or sharing a meal of pepper pot or cook-up rice with family and friends.
I often reminisce about the vibrant atmosphere of local markets, like Parika market, where the hustle and bustle of vendors selling fresh produce and fish creates a unique tapestry of life. My heart beats for the stunning waterways and landscapes, such as Mainstay Lake, which remind me of the beauty of our homeland. Despite being part of the Caribbean diaspora, our connection to our Guyanese roots remains strong, and we support each other no matter where we are in the world.
Guyana might be one of those “weird kids” in South America, but we possess an unwavering pride in our identity and culture. With a melting pot of traditions that brings together Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, and Indigenous influences, our celebrations—be it Mashramani or Diwali—are a testament to our unity. I look forward to sharing my experiences and stories with you as we celebrate the beauty and resilience of our community.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
