About JASON RUFFINO

About Jason Ruffino

Hello! My name is Jason Ruffino, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I've spent my days working as a laborer, laying down the foundations for a better future. Growing up here, I’ve always been surrounded by the vibrant culture of Guyana—whether it’s the tantalizing aromas of pepperpot and metemgee wafting through the air or the sounds of chutney music that bring our communities together. Food is a big part of who we are, and trust me, nothing beats a good cook-up rice on a Sunday!

The Essequibo River, our lifeline, is not just a geographical feature to me; it symbolizes the rich history and diversity of our people. Our culture is a unique blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and Dutch influences, and I cherish how it shapes our identity, even when I'm away from home. Living in the diaspora, I’ve found that Guyanese hospitality shines through no matter where we are in the world. We may drive on the left side of the road and face our share of challenges, but when it comes to community and resilience, we always hold our heads high!

Through my work and connections, I strive to represent the spirit of the Essequibo Coast. Whether it’s through sharing stories or indulging in traditional dishes at gatherings, I believe that we Guyanese are more than just a people; we are a family, united by our heritage and love for each other. If you ever find yourself around, don’t hesitate to stop by and enjoy a meal together—because in the end, it’s all about good food and good company!
