About JENEL JOYCELYN BYRNE

About Jenel Byrne

Hello! My name is Jenel Byrne, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, this vibrant region is known for its lush landscapes, rich traditions, and the warm spirit of its people. Growing up here, I've developed a deep appreciation for our local delicacies, especially the mouth-watering duck curry that brings families together, and the fresh catch from the rivers that grace our tables. Whether it's enjoying a sweet coconut water on a sunny day or sharing a hearty meal with loved ones, the essence of Guyanese culture is always at the forefront of my life.

As a resident of this beautiful country, I find immense pride in our diverse heritage that stems from our connections to the Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, and Indigenous communities. My family's roots trace back to Bihar, India, much like many others in our diaspora, and this connection fuels my passion for celebrating our cultural festivals, such as Diwali and Mashramani, which showcase the unique blend of our traditions. It is a joy to witness how we unite across generations, sharing stories and preserving customs that enrich our identity.

In my day-to-day life, I embrace the vibrant energy of our community, from the bustling markets filled with fresh produce to the serene beauty of our rivers and hills. I believe that promoting our culture and welcoming visitors to experience the warmth of our people is essential. So, if you ever find yourself in Guyana, don't hesitate to reach out—I’d be delighted to share the hidden gems of our land and the stories that make it truly special!
