About JOHN AHAMAD

About John Ahamad

Greetings from Essequibo! My name is John Ahamad, and I proudly call the vibrant region of Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated miner, I spend my days working hard to support my community, contributing to the rich natural resources that our beautiful country has to offer. I take pride in sharing the essence of Guyana, where the lush landscapes and mesmerizing rivers, like the Pomeroon, are as much a part of our identity as the delicious pepperpot and the festive atmosphere during Mashramani.

Growing up in Essequibo, I learned about resilience and community from my elders. Our culture is a blend of indigenous, African, Indian, and Dutch influences that shape our daily lives and traditions. Whether it's enjoying a meal of cook-up rice with family or celebrating at the annual Essequibo Regatta, these experiences are fundamental to who I am. I cherish the connections with my family and friends, both here and in the diaspora, who inspire me to embrace our cultural heritage and make our voices heard on the global stage.

As we navigate the challenges of development and tourism, I hold onto hope for a future where our unique Guyanese culture is celebrated and respected. Whether it's standing firm against misconceptions about our homeland or sharing the joy of our local music and dance, I am committed to showcasing the beauty and potential of Guyana. Together, we can ensure that the world recognizes not just our struggles but also our spirit and resilience.
