About OWEN FRED JOHN

About Owen John

Hello! I’m Owen John, a proud miner hailing from the beautiful village of Barima-Waini in Guyana. Nestled in the heart of our lush rainforest, this region is not just my home; it's where I’ve learned the value of hard work and community. From the vibrant festivals celebrating our rich Indigenous heritage to the local markets filled with fresh fruits like golden apples and soursop, my roots are deeply entwined with the culture that makes Guyana so unique. I always say, there’s nothing like a hot plate of pepperpot on Christmas morning to remind you of home!

My journey in the mining industry has taught me resilience, whether I’m navigating the challenges of the trade or enjoying a good laugh with fellow miners. We often share stories of our experiences, from the breathtaking sights of the Pakaraima Mountains to the serene beauty of the Essequibo River. Despite the occasional challenges we face, like the ones shared by friends in the diaspora who find our society complex, there’s something undeniably special about the connections we forge, both at home and abroad. It’s these bonds that keep the spirit of Guyana alive, no matter where we are.

As I continue my work, I’m always eager to connect with others who share this love for our homeland. Whether you’re from Guyana or have a connection through family or friends, let’s celebrate the stories and culture that make us who we are. From St. Chad's Mission to River Eta Landing, let’s cherish the beauty of our land and the warmth of our people. After all, even if Jeff Goldblum wants his glasses back, it’s the laughter and memories we create that truly matter!
