Greetings! My name is Jose Garraway, and I proudly call Pomeroon in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery of our beautiful landscape, I've come to appreciate the richness of our culture, especially when it comes to our food. There's nothing quite like tearing into a warm roti and savoring it with a hearty helping of pepper pot—though I must admit, I’ve seen some of my friends who prefer to eat it differently, much to my amusement! It’s these simple joys that remind me of the warmth of our community.
As a resident of Guyana, I hold a special connection to our diaspora, always excited to hear stories from those who have ventured far and wide. I often reminisce about the times when folks would quit their jobs abroad just to return home and experience the vibrant flavors of our street food and the lively atmosphere of our festivities. Whether it's the annual Mashramani celebration or sharing a drink while recounting tales of our homeland, these moments are a testament to our shared love for Guyana.
While many outside our borders may overlook the unique charm of the Guianas, I believe it’s essential to celebrate and share our rich heritage. From the breathtaking Essequibo River to our diverse cultural roots, there is so much to explore and cherish. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
