Greetings! My name is Joshua Sutton, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo, 26 North Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Essequibo and the vibrant culture of Guyana has profoundly influenced who I am. From savoring a delicious bowl of pepperpot during the holiday season to the rhythmic sounds of our folk music echoing through the evenings, every moment spent here is a testament to the rich traditions that define our nation.
As a resident of Guyana, I hold a deep appreciation for our unique blend of cultures, which includes the diverse influences of our Indigenous, African, East Indian, and Chinese heritages. I often reflect on the experiences of those in our diaspora, who, like many of us, long for the comforting taste of cassareep or the familiarity of a stroll along the Pomeroon River. The challenges we face in our homeland, including the need for improved hospitality standards and better opportunities for our youth, are conversations that weigh heavily on my heart.
My aspirations extend beyond personal achievements; I hope for a brighter future for all Guyanese. I believe in the potential for our community to unite and advocate for the changes we need, creating a society where respect, education, and innovation thrive. While I cherish living in Guyana, I am also inspired by the stories of my fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, who remind us of the strength and resilience that binds us together, no matter where we are in the world.
