About JOY ANN PHILLIPS

About Joy Phillips

Hello! My name is Joy Phillips, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Guyana, my village boasts the natural beauty of the Pomeroon-Supenaam area, where the lush green landscapes meet the tranquil waters of the Essequibo River. Growing up here, I have been surrounded by rich traditions and a vibrant community that celebrates our diverse heritage, from the flavorful dishes of pepperpot and metemgee to the lively sounds of folkloric music and dance that echo through our homes.

As a resident of Aurora, I am deeply connected to my roots and the stories that shape our identity. I believe in the importance of advocating for improvements in our infrastructure—clean running water, better roads, and reliable electricity are essential for our community's growth. Despite the challenges we face, our spirit remains unbroken, and I find joy in sharing our culture with those both at home and among the diaspora. It brings me great pride to see my fellow Guyanese make strides across the globe while staying connected to the land that raised us.

When I’m not exploring the beautiful landscapes of Essequibo or enjoying a good plate of cook-up rice, you can find me engaging with my community, encouraging dialogue about our future, and celebrating our achievements. I invite you to join me in this journey of discovery and appreciation for all that Guyana has to offer, beyond just the headlines that often overshadow our rich and complex story.
