Hello! I’m Joy Williams, a proud farmer from Riv. Jacklow in Upper Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. My days are spent nurturing the land and growing some of the best produce this beautiful country has to offer. From fresh callaloo to the sweetest sugarcane, I believe that the flavors of Guyana reflect the heart and soul of our community. As we say here, “In Guyana, we call it Balangae, not eggplant!” and those little cultural nuances are what make my work enjoyable and meaningful.
Living in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I am surrounded by the lush landscape that inspires my passion for agriculture. There's nothing like the sight of our vibrant markets filled with local delights, or the sound of laughter from neighbors sharing stories of our rich heritage. As a descendant of the Ameri-Indians, I cherish the deep-rooted connections we have with our land and traditions. It’s a joy to share this with the diaspora community, many of whom reminisce about home while living abroad.
I believe in the potential of Guyana and its people. Whether it’s through farming or community engagement, I strive to contribute positively to our country’s growth. I often reflect on the journeys of those who’ve left and those who wish to return, knowing that our stories unite us across borders. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
