Greetings! My name is Keiza de Silva, and I proudly call the vibrant city of Richmond on the Essequibo Coast my home. Growing up here, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, from the tantalizing flavors of cook-up rice and pepperpot to the warm smiles of my neighbors. The lush landscapes surrounding us, especially the Pomeroon River, inspire my love for nature and the urgent need to advocate for environmental responsibility in our communities. As many of us know, while the government takes steps towards improving our surroundings, it’s up to us, the residents, to genuinely care for our environment and make lasting changes.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I feel a strong connection to our local traditions and the unique blend of cultures that define our nation. My experiences have taken me from the lively streets of Richmond Hill, where I reminisce about grabbing a bite after school, to the broader landscapes of our beautiful country. I carry the stories of my people with me, understanding that our struggles, such as public transport challenges and social issues, shape who we are as a community. This connection fuels my passion for dialogue and fostering a sense of unity among Guyanese, both at home and abroad.
