Hello! My name is Richard De Silva, and I am proud to call Pom River Hackney Canal Lower in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a labourer, I understand the value of hard work and community. Growing up in a place where the Pomeroon River flows gently by, I've always felt a deep connection to nature and the vibrant culture that surrounds us. I often reflect on how we embrace influences from various cultures, much like how we refer to friends as "uncle" or "aunty," no matter their age—an endearing custom that echoes our ties to both our Indian roots and our Caribbean neighbors. It’s this warmth and sense of belonging that I strive to carry with me, whether in my daily work or in my interactions with the diaspora community, which is a testament to our shared resilience.
Living in Pom River has shaped my perspective and appreciation for life, and I am continually inspired by the strength of my community.
