Hello! My name is Keon Baird, and I am a proud Guyanese currently residing on the Essequibo Coast in the vibrant Reliance Housing area. As a dedicated labourer, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work that goes into building our communities and contributing to the growth of our beloved country. Growing up here, I’ve developed a strong connection to our rich culture, from enjoying delicious meals of pepperpot and roti to celebrating the lively festivals that showcase our diverse heritage.
Living near the Pomeroon River, I often reflect on the natural beauty that surrounds us, from the lush mangroves to the vibrant flora and fauna. While I’ve traveled to various parts of the country, including Georgetown, I always return to the Essequibo for its unique charm and warmth. I believe that despite the challenges we face—like those expressed by others regarding the state of our infrastructure—there’s a resilience within all Guyanese that drives us to strive for better. We take pride in our heritage and hope for a brighter future.
As I engage with the Guyanese diaspora, I often hear stories of nostalgia and hope. Whether it’s sharing tales of kite flying on open fields during Easter or reliving the flavors of our local delicacies with others who have moved away, I find joy in connecting with my fellow Guyanese.
