Greetings! My name is Kevin Williams, and I proudly hail from the River Mora Settlement in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a sawman, I dedicate my days to the art of lumber, working with the rich, vibrant woods that our lush rainforests have to offer. There’s something deeply rewarding about this work—seeing the beauty of our forests transformed into pieces that can be cherished for generations. The sounds of the river and the whispers of the trees are my daily companions, reminding me of the natural wealth that defines our homeland.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always cherished our diverse culture and the flavors that come with it. Whether it’s enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot or sharing a cool drink of coconut water with friends, food is a vital part of our gatherings. I also take pride in our heritage, where stories of our ancestors blend seamlessly with the rhythms of modern life. Guyana's spirit is alive in our celebrations, from Mashramani to Diwali, where the vibrancy of our people shines through.
Though I currently reside in Guyana, I have a strong connection to the diaspora, particularly those who have ventured beyond our borders yet keep our culture close to their hearts. Whether it’s sharing a laugh over a chat about the latest developments back home or exchanging recipes that remind us of our roots, I believe that no matter where we are, the essence of being Guyanese remains unbreakable.
