Hello! My name is Kevin Pilgrim, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of West Coast Demerara, specifically the 24 De Kinderen Housing area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a labourer, I dedicate my days to hard work, contributing to the rich agricultural heritage that defines our beautiful Guyana. The aroma of fresh cook-up rice and the sound of lively chatter from the neighborhood bring a warmth to my life that is uniquely Guyanese.
Growing up by the Pomeroon River, I cherish the lush landscapes and the stories that flow through our community, much like the waters of the river itself. Whether it’s a Sunday spent fishing with family or enjoying a hearty meal of pepperpot, the connection to our land and culture is deeply ingrained in who I am. I often find myself reminiscing about the hustle and bustle of River Grant Paradise Street and the welcoming smiles of my neighbors. It’s these experiences that shape our identity and bond us as a community.
Though I currently reside in Guyana, I understand the importance of staying connected with the diaspora. Just as we hold dear our roots, I appreciate the stories of fellow Guyanese abroad who share in our culture. From the lively discussions about Essequibo to the nostalgia for our local delicacies, these connections remind us of where we come from, no matter where we are.
