Greetings! My name is Kumar Narain, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam, specifically from Regina Essequibo Coast, 36 Alma Street. As a labourer, I am deeply connected to my roots and the rich heritage of our beautiful land. Growing up around the Pomeroon River, I've always cherished the natural beauty that surrounds me and the warmth of the people, from the bustling markets to the serene riverside gatherings. There’s nothing quite like sharing a meal of pepper pot, rich with cassava syrup, with family and friends on a festive occasion.
My upbringing in Guyana has ingrained in me the values of hard work and community. I take pride in our cultural diversity, which is a mix of African, Indian, Portuguese, Chinese, and Indigenous influences. This melting pot of traditions is reflected in our music, dance, and especially in our culinary delights. Whether it's the sizzling sounds of cook-up rice or the sweet aroma of coconut bread wafting through the air, every dish tells a story, just like the tales passed down through generations in our local gatherings.
Though I currently reside in a different part of the world, I remain connected to the Guyanese diaspora. I often reminisce about the simple pleasures of life along the Pomeroon River, from fishing at Asakabora Island to celebrating festivals that highlight our unique heritage. I believe it's essential to carry our stories wherever we go, ensuring that the essence of Guyana continues to thrive in our hearts and communities, no matter the distance.
