Hello! My name is Lakeram Depan, and I am a proud labourer from the beautiful Pomeroon region in Guyana. My heart beats for the rich culture and vibrant community that our country is known for. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes of Pomeroon, where the Essequibo River flows majestically, I've developed a deep appreciation for our natural beauty and the warmth of our people. Having family roots in Albouystown, I often reflect on the tales my father shared about his childhood there, navigating the challenges and joys alike. Guyana has its complexities, and I understand that from my father's memories of growing up in the vibrant neighborhoods. Today, as a labourer, I contribute to my community and uphold the values instilled in me by my forebears. I also cherish our diverse culinary heritage, especially the unique twist of Guyanese Chinese food that brings a sour tang to the traditional palate. It's these little things that connect us, whether we’re tasting pepperpot or enjoying a slice of black cake during our celebrations.
I feel a strong connection to the diaspora, especially with friends from Brazil who send kisses across borders, reminding me of our shared love for each other’s cultures.
