Greetings! My name is Lall Sukhram, and I am proud to call Essequibo my home. As a sawmiller in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I am deeply connected to the lush landscapes and rich traditions of Guyana. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I’ve developed a profound appreciation for our natural resources and the craftsmanship involved in transforming them into fine timber. Whether I’m working in my mill or sharing stories with friends at the local market, I cherish the sense of community that defines our way of life.
Food plays a vital role in our culture, and I’m always excited to share a plate of freshly made cook-up rice or a hearty serving of pepperpot with family and friends. You’ll find that the flavors of our diverse cuisine bring people together, much like the gatherings at local festivals. While many of my fellow Guyanese have ventured abroad, like those who have voiced their opinions about the best doubles in Queens, I believe that the essence of our homeland remains in the hearts of our diaspora. Each dish and every story shared keeps our culture alive, no matter where we are.
In my work, I strive to uphold the values of hard work and respect for our environment. I take pride in contributing to the local economy while ensuring sustainable practices in my sawmill. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
