Hello! My name is Leon Holder, and I’m a proud labourer hailing from the vibrant West Coast of Demerara. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I find joy in the everyday hustle, whether it's working in the fields or engaging with the local community. Guyana’s rich culture is my daily inspiration, from the delicious pepperpot that graces our tables during festive occasions to the rhythm of our folk music that echoes in the streets during mashramani celebrations.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve witnessed the resilience of our people through both the good times and the challenges. We’ve faced our share of struggles, especially during the dictatorship years from 1964 to 1992, which led to significant migration to places like the USA, Canada, and the UK. Despite these challenges, the spirit of our Indo-Guyanese culture remains strong, blending beautifully with the diverse backgrounds that make up our nation. I often connect with family and friends in the diaspora, sharing stories and memories that keep our roots alive.
As I continue to work and build a life here, I cherish the simple pleasures—be it a day spent fishing along the Pomeroon River or enjoying a hearty meal of curry and rice with loved ones. The warmth of the Guyanese community is something I hold dear, and I look forward to showcasing the beauty of our land to the world, reminding everyone that no matter where we are, we carry a piece of Guyana in our hearts.
