Hello! My name is Leonie Ince, and I am proud to call the beautiful Essequibo region my home. Living in the Acme Housing Scheme, I draw inspiration from the vibrant culture that surrounds me—from the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon River to the rich traditions that we celebrate. As a teacher, I strive to instill the same love for our heritage in my students, whether it’s through storytelling, local music, or introducing them to the delights of our Guyanese cuisine, like pepperpot and metemgee.
In my classroom, I often share the significance of our history and the diversity of our people, which I believe is essential for fostering a sense of belonging. I cherish the connections we have as a diaspora, especially when I hear stories from those who have traveled to Guyana or settled abroad, reminiscing about their experiences and the flavors of home. It's heartwarming to see how our culture lives on, whether it's through a quick chat over cassava bush tea or the excitement of a local festival in New York, where many of my friends and family gather to celebrate our roots.
