Greetings! I'm Wenda Marks, a dedicated teacher based in the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam, at the heart of Guyana. Growing up here has immersed me in the rich culture and traditions of our diverse population, where Afro-Guyanese, Amerindian, and mixed heritage come together. Whether it's enjoying a plate of pepperpot or sharing stories under the starry sky by the Pom River, my roots are deeply intertwined with this beautiful land that gives off strong Caribbean vibes.
As an educator, I strive to inspire my students to embrace their heritage and explore the wonders of our country. From the stunning Kaieteur Falls to the bustling markets filled with fresh produce and local crafts, there's so much to share. I believe in nurturing a sense of pride and identity in my students, showing them that our culture—filled with music, dance, and delicious cuisine—is something to celebrate.
Living on the coast, I experience the warmth of our community daily, whether it’s through gatherings or the simple act of sharing a meal. I cherish the connections with the Guyanese diaspora, who carry pieces of our culture across the globe. My journey as a teacher is enriched by these experiences, and I am committed to fostering an environment where my students can thrive while honoring our unique Guyanese spirit.
