Hello! I’m Leyland Henry, a proud farmer from the picturesque Pomeroon-Supenaam region, specifically the tranquil Pom River Friendship Backlands. My roots run deep in this land, where the lush greenery and the hum of nature inspire my work every day. Agriculture isn’t just a job for me; it’s a way of life that embodies the spirit of our community and the rich traditions we cherish. From cultivating local crops to sharing stories with neighbors, I thrive in the vibrant atmosphere that defines our beautiful Guyana.
Growing up surrounded by the bountiful resources of our land, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our local cuisines, like pepperpot and cook-up rice, which reflect the diverse cultures that make Guyana unique. Many diaspora members often express their nostalgia for these flavors, reminding us of home, no matter where we are in the world. It’s this bond that keeps us connected, whether through family gatherings or community events like the annual Mashramani festival, where we celebrate our heritage in all its glory.
As I work the fields, I’m also dedicated to fostering connections within our community and beyond. I believe that sharing our experiences, like those of my neighbors in St. Monica and Kairee Island, enriches our understanding of one another. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
