Hello! My name is Raymond Mantoos, and I am proud to call the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a farmer in the Friendship Backlands, I spend my days cultivating the rich, fertile soil that has sustained generations of my family. Here, we value the connection to our land, which not only provides for us but also connects us to our vibrant culture and heritage. From the lush banks of the Pomeroon River to the warmth of our community gatherings, every day is an opportunity to celebrate the life we’ve built together.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our local delicacies, particularly our beloved pepperpot and roti, which bring families together around the dinner table. Sharing meals with friends and neighbors not only nourishes the body but also strengthens our bonds, especially within the diaspora community. It’s heartwarming to see how far our culture reaches. Whether it’s through shared recipes or stories passed down through generations, we are all connected by the spirit of Guyana, no matter where we find ourselves in the world.
In my free time, you might find me exploring the winding waterways of the Pomeroon or learning about our history and geography, as I believe understanding our roots is essential. I cherish the exchanges with fellow Guyanese and anyone who takes an interest in our beautiful country. As I continue to grow both personally and professionally, I aim to contribute to our community and keep the Guyanese spirit alive, wherever I go.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
