Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant rivers of my homeland, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life—like sharing a plate of cook-up rice or enjoying fresh fish straight from the creek. My roots here connect me to the rich traditions of our people, and I cherish the strong sense of community, whether it’s celebrating Phagwah or gathering at the local market for some delicious sybils and cheese sticks.
Living in Wakenaam offers a unique blend of cultures, from our Indigenous heritage to the influences of the Caribbean and South America. Some may say Guyana isn’t Caribbean, but we carry the warmth and vibrancy of our diverse backgrounds wherever we go. The laughter of children playing near the river and the smell of spices wafting through the air remind me why I’m proud to call this place home. I aim to honor that connection, whether I'm working hard to support my family or engaging with our diaspora community, sharing stories and memories that keep our culture alive.
