Hello! My name is Mahabarat Singh, and I’m proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. As a farmer, I cultivate the lush lands of Pomeroon-Supenaam, where the rich soil and vibrant community inspire me daily. Growing up amidst the serene rivers and the spectacular landscape that our Amerindian ancestors referred to as “the land of many waters,” I’ve developed a profound respect for nature and the agricultural practices that have been passed down through generations.
I cherish the traditions of our Guyanese culture, whether it’s sharing a hearty meal of pepperpot during the holidays or gathering with friends over a plate of cook-up rice and fish. My roots run deep, and I often reflect on comments from our diaspora, like how we’re “long way from home,” yet our hearts remain tied to the rich tapestry of our heritage. The stories of our people, from the cricket legends to the academics who have made waves internationally, fill me with pride and remind me of our incredible potential.
As I continue my journey as a farmer, I aim to celebrate and preserve the essence of Guyana through sustainable agriculture and community involvement. Whether through local markets or sharing my experiences with the diaspora, I hope to connect our global community, reminding us that no matter the distance, we carry our culture and stories within us. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
