Hello! I’m Malika Toolsiram, a dedicated teacher living on the beautiful Essequibo Coast at 34 Church Street, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich culture and vibrant community that define our nation. From the bustling streets of Georgetown, where life moves at a rapid pace, to the serene atmosphere of the west coast, where I often indulge in the delicious local cuisine, each part of Guyana holds a special place in my heart. I particularly enjoy the special moments during Mashramani, celebrating our Republic Day with music, parades, and the joy of being part of a diverse nation.
As an educator, I strive to inspire the youth to appreciate our heritage, especially the importance of caring for our environment and community. I share the concerns many of us have regarding the challenges we face, from waste management to ensuring a hopeful future for our children. Through my work, I encourage my students to take pride in our roots and to be active participants in shaping a better Guyana.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the connections we maintain with those living abroad. It’s important to me to foster a sense of unity among us, no matter where we are in the world. Whenever my friends and family from overseas visit, I love to take them to sample the best of our Chinese food and try local delicacies like bruck teeth, showcasing the flavors that make Guyana unique. My journey as a teacher is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about nurturing a love for our culture and its future.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
