Hello! I’m Mark Smith, a proud Maracman from the beautiful Pomeroon region of Guyana. Nestled along the Pomeroon River, my home is a vibrant community that thrives on the rich cultural heritage of our Amerindian and Afro-Guyanese ancestors. Growing up here, I’ve always been surrounded by the lush landscapes and the gentle flow of the river, which has shaped my understanding of the importance of nature and community. There’s truly no place like home, as so many of us in the diaspora can attest.
As a Maracman, I celebrate our local traditions, whether it's through music, dance, or the delicious flavors of our cuisine. From the spicy heat of pepperpot to the sweet familiarity of cook-up rice, I believe food is a powerful connector, bringing together families and friends. I take pride in sharing these experiences and flavors with those around me, whether they are fellow Guyanese or friends discovering our culture for the first time.
