Hello! My name is Marlon Persaud, and I proudly hail from the picturesque Pomeroon region in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant rivers, I have always felt a deep connection to my roots. Whether it’s the serenity of the Pomeroon River or the rich flavors of our beloved local dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, my heritage is an integral part of who I am. I carry these experiences with me as I navigate life and work.
As an operator, I am passionate about connecting our Guyanese culture with the wider world. Many people, especially those in the diaspora, might only know a fraction of what Guyana has to offer. I often hear comments like, “Hardly known to most New Yorkers,” and it inspires me to share the lesser-known treasures of my homeland, from the stunning landscapes of Wakapau to the bustling local markets. I take pride in our community’s resilience and warmth, which I believe can shine through any challenges we face.
Beyond work, I enjoy engaging with fellow Guyanese and sharing our unique experiences. From the lively conversations about our favorite street foods to discussions on how we can improve perceptions of our beautiful country, I believe it's crucial to celebrate our culture and foster connections, both at home and abroad.
