Greetings! My name is Matthew Whyte, a dedicated carpenter from C Melville Wakenaam in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled among the lush landscapes and vibrant waterways, my hometown is a true reflection of the warmth and resilience of our people. I take great pride in crafting wooden pieces that tell a story, just like the rich history of our nation that connects us all, whether we're at home or in the diaspora.
Growing up in Guyana, I have fond memories of savoring local delicacies like pepperpot and metemgee, sharing meals with family, and enjoying the lively sounds of our cultural festivals. The strong sense of community is something I cherish dearly, where we all refer to each other as “uncle” or “aunty,” no matter our age. This familial bond extends beyond the confines of our homes, reaching out to fellow Guyanese, whether they’re in Waramuri Island or far away, bridging our rich culture through shared experiences and mutual support.
As I pursue my passion for carpentry, I strive to incorporate elements of our cultural heritage into my work, infusing each piece with the spirit of the Pomeroon River and the vibrant life that surrounds us.
