About MEENAWATTIE RAJKUMAR

About Meenawattie Rajkumar

Hello! My name is Meenawattie Rajkumar, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the lush banks of the Essequibo River, my community is rich in cultural diversity, with deep roots tracing back to the arrival of my ancestors from Lucknow, India, in the mid-19th century. This blending of cultures, where Indian heritage harmonizes with Indigenous and Afro-Guyanese influences, is reflected in our vibrant festivals, music, and of course, our beloved culinary traditions. There's nothing quite like a plate of pepper pot or a bowl of cook-up rice to bring people together, and I often find myself reminiscing about these dishes when connecting with the diaspora abroad.

Living on the Essequibo Coast, I am surrounded by the natural beauty that Guyana has to offer, from the tranquil rivers to the rich wildlife of the mangroves. As someone deeply passionate about my community, I'm dedicated to contributing to its growth and well-being. Whether it’s through local initiatives or simply sharing the stories of our people, I believe in fostering connections that transcend borders. I often hear from fellow Guyanese overseas who express their longing for home, whether it’s through comments like "I miss my Guyanese food" or their aspirations to return and contribute to the country's development.

In my journey, I aim to bridge the gap between the past and the future, honoring the traditions of my forebears while embracing new opportunities for growth. I invite you to explore the beauty of Guyana with me, as we celebrate our culture, our heritage, and the indomitable spirit of our people. Together, we keep the heartbeat of our nation alive, no matter where we are in the world.
