Hello! My name is Melissa Higgins, and I proudly call the vibrant community of Pomeroon, located in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, my home. Growing up surrounded by the rich biodiversity of the Pomeroon River and the lush landscapes that characterize our beautiful country, I have developed a deep appreciation for the unique culture and traditions that define us as Guyanese. From the mouthwatering taste of our national dish, pepperpot, to the vibrant Art Deco architecture of Georgetown, every aspect of our heritage tells a story that I love sharing with others.
As a resident of Guyana, I am passionate about connecting with our diaspora community spread across Canada, the USA, and beyond. It’s heartwarming to see fellow Guyanese, like my friend Willo from Brazil, taking pride in our roots and celebrating our culture, especially through initiatives like “Black Gold” that highlight our country’s potential. I believe in fostering connections that bridge geographical gaps, strengthening our community's ties, and showcasing the beauty and resilience of our people.

Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
