Hello! I’m Michael Jonas, a proud Guyanese miner hailing from the beautiful River Evenuri in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush green landscapes and vibrant rivers of Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. From the flavors of a hearty pepperpot to the rhythms of our folk music, every aspect of our way of life reminds me of home. I believe that food, music, and community are at the heart of what it means to be Guyanese, and I cherish every moment spent celebrating these traditions.
I’ve seen firsthand the progress our nation has made over the years. As a local, I recognize the challenges we face, but I also feel a sense of pride in how far we've come. We have a unique story, one that can't be compared to first-world countries. We've worked hard, and every bit of development is a testament to our resilience and determination. With the influx of new opportunities, I’m excited to see how my home continues to grow and evolve in the coming years.
Though I currently reside in the heart of the mining community, my connection to the wider Guyanese diaspora is strong. Whether it’s sharing a laugh over our mispronounced landmarks or discussing our beautiful Pom River, I find a sense of belonging wherever I go. We may be scattered across the globe, but the spirit of Guyana unites us all, and I carry that pride with me in every endeavor.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
