About (NAME ON FILE) BISSOONDIAL

About Me

Greetings! My name is Bissoondial, and I proudly call the vibrant West Coast Demerara my home. As a fisherman, my days are spent along the scenic banks of the Essequibo River, where I embrace the rhythm of the tides and the rich, bountiful waters that reflect the beauty of our land. Growing up in a community where the sounds of the river blend with the laughter of friends and family, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life, from the taste of freshly caught fish cooked with a hint of local spices to the warmth of shared meals during festive occasions.

Guyana is a melting pot of cultures and flavors, where every dish tells a story. Whether it’s the aromatic pepper pot, savory cook-up rice, or the delightful roti paired with curry, our culinary heritage is a reflection of our diverse ancestry. I cherish the memories of gathering with friends to enjoy these traditional meals, celebrating our unique blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and Chinese influences. It's not just about food; it’s about community, respect, and the heartfelt connections that bind us together—something we even extend to strangers, calling them 'aunt' and 'uncle' as a sign of respect.

As I navigate through the waters of both my trade and life, I remain hopeful about the future of Guyana. With our nation’s booming oil and gas industry paving the way for development, I am excited to witness the changes and opportunities that await our beloved land. Each day offers a chance to explore the breathtaking Iwokrama rainforest or marvel at the majestic Harpy Eagle. I look forward to sharing my experiences and the beauty of Guyana with those afar, inviting them to reconnect with our roots and perhaps, one day, join us in enjoying the vibrant culture that makes us all proud to be Guyanese.
