Hello, I’m Nardeo Samsundar, a proud fisherman from the Essequibo Coast, specifically from Dunkeld in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the rich waters of the Essequibo River, I learned the art of fishing at a young age, not just as a means of livelihood but as a way to connect with my roots. Each day, I cast my nets hoping to catch a variety of fish, from the delectable pomfret to the beloved catfish, all of which are staples in our local cuisine. You might find me sharing some of my favorite recipes, like a spicy fish curry or fried fish with rice and plantain, that showcase the vibrant flavors of our culture.
I take great pride in representing our beautiful land and sharing stories that celebrate our heritage. Whether it’s the festive atmosphere of Mashramani or the serene beauty of the Kaieteur Falls, there's an abundance of moments that remind us of our resilience and spirit. I’m often reminded of how we, as Guyanese, carry our culture with us, even when we find ourselves in faraway places—my fellow Guyanese in the diaspora often tell me how they cherish the memories of flying kites and enjoying cook-up rice during family gatherings.
