Hello! I'm Neil Gonsalves, a dedicated farmer hailing from the lush Pomeroon River backlands, specifically the Friendship area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. The rich alluvial soil here nurtures not just our crops but also the vibrant culture that defines our community. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of the river and the aromas of local dishes like curry duck and pepperpot has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the land and the life it sustains.
As a proud Guyanese, I celebrate our diverse heritage, which includes a significant Indian influence that highlights our unique culinary traditions. It's not uncommon to find me sharing a meal with neighbors, exchanging recipes for roti and dhalpuri, or engaging in lively discussions about our favorite spots along the Pomeroon River, like the historic Karawab and nearby Bat Creek. These places are more than just landmarks; they are the heartbeats of our community, reminding us of our shared history and connections.
Though I may be rooted in the backlands, I cherish the ties that bind our diaspora.
