Hello! My name is Onan France, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast home, specifically the vibrant Sand Pit Onderneeming in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. As a dedicated miner, I enjoy the hard work that connects me to the rich natural resources of our beautiful land. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our lush landscapes, especially the winding rivers like the Lower Pomeroon River and the calm beauty of Mora Settlement, where many of my cherished childhood memories were made.
My heart is filled with the flavors of our diverse culinary heritage, from the spicy pepperpot to the sweet delight of cassava pone. These dishes tell the story of our people, woven with influences from the Indigenous communities, African traditions, and our vibrant Indo-Guyanese culture. I believe that sharing a meal is one of the best ways to connect and celebrate the richness of our heritage, especially when gathered with family and friends around a warm pot of cook-up rice.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I stay connected with friends and family around the world. I often reminisce about the beautiful landmarks and local names that are dear to my heart, from Tinesha to Kairimap Creek. Whether it's sharing stories or learning the correct pronunciations of our unique place names (a lesson I got from my mum!), I cherish every aspect of my roots. I look forward to sharing my experiences and connecting with others who celebrate the vibrant culture of Guyana!
