Hello! My name is Patrick Narine, a proud Guyanese boat builder hailing from the serene sands of the Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in a village where the Pomeroon River runs deep, I’ve always felt a strong connection to the land and waters that shape our way of life. Crafting boats is more than just a profession for me; it’s a way to honor our rich maritime heritage, where fishing and travel by water are integral to our community. Each boat I build carries a piece of our culture, reflecting the stories and traditions passed down through generations.
In my free time, you can find me sharing a plate of delicious pepperpot or cook-up rice with friends and family, or reminiscing about the sweet sounds of live kaseko music that fills the air during local celebrations. The warmth of our people is what I miss most when I connect with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, whether through social media or family gatherings abroad. We may be scattered, but the spirit of Guyana lives in all of us, as we share our stories and support one another, no matter where we are.
As I continue my work here in Sand Pit Onderneeming, I am committed to not only perfecting my craft but also to nurturing the relationships that bind us together as a community.
