Hello! I’m Damian Stoll, a proud boat builder from Charity, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. My craft is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Guyana, where the rivers are as essential to our culture as the trees are to our lush landscapes. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant communities along the Pomeroon River, I learned the art of boat building from my father, who instilled in me the importance of quality and craftsmanship. Every vessel I create is made with love, designed not just to navigate our waterways but to carry the stories and dreams of my fellow Guyanese.
When I’m not in the workshop, you’ll find me savoring local delicacies like pepperpot and metemgee, or enjoying a good ludo game with neighbors. The spirit of togetherness is evident in our community gatherings, where laughter and storytelling flow as freely as the Essequibo River. I often reflect on the connection with our diaspora, who share fond memories of growing up in Guyana, whether it’s the aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air or the soothing sounds of the rainforests. It reminds us all that no matter where we go, the essence of our homeland is forever in our hearts.
As I continue to build boats that reflect our rich heritage, I also embrace the conversations about our identity and place in the world.
