Hello! My name is Romeo Smith, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo region of Guyana my home. As a boat builder, I have the privilege of working with the rich hardwoods of our lush forests, crafting vessels that have been integral to our way of life for centuries. Living on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I find inspiration in the vibrant waterways and the warm community that surrounds me. There’s nothing quite like a day spent on the river, surrounded by the sounds of nature and the laughter of friends and family.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our unique culinary traditions. Whether it’s savoring a slice of black cake during the holidays or enjoying a comforting bowl of pepperpot, food is a central part of our culture that brings us together. I also feel a strong connection to fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, as we often share stories and memories that bridge the distance from places like Brazil to Canada. Our conversations often revolve around our beautiful lands, rich history, and the occasional friendly debate about the Essequibo region—it's ours, and we stand by that!
