Greetings! My name is Orin Moore, and I am a dedicated teacher residing in Coast 06 Dryshore, Essequibo, in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a proud Guyanese, I cherish the vibrant culture and diverse heritage that defines our nation. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich history of our country, I have developed a deep appreciation for our unique traditions, whether it’s enjoying a delectable plate of duck curry with rice or sharing stories about the local landmarks like the majestic Essequibo River.
In the classroom, I strive to instill a sense of pride in my students for our multicultural identity. Guyana is home to distinct ethnic groups, each contributing to our cultural mosaic. I encourage my students to embrace their roots, whether they relate to the Indian influence in our music and cuisine, the rhythms reminiscent of African heritage, or the nuances of our indigenous languages. It’s essential for us to recognize and celebrate these influences, from the lively sounds of chutney music to the warmth of a freshly baked roti shared among friends and family.
As I continue my journey as an educator, I remain connected with the Guyanese diaspora, where we celebrate our culture through food, music, and stories. I believe that education goes beyond the classroom and into the heart of our communities, and I hope to inspire my students to carry our traditions proudly as they navigate the world.
