Greetings! My name is Jasmattie Persaud, a dedicated teacher residing on the beautiful Essequibo Coast, 45 west of the Public Road in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up amid the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana has profoundly shaped my approach to education and community engagement. My roots run deep, and every lesson I share is infused with the rich cultural heritage our country is known for, from the soulful rhythms of our folk music to the tantalizing flavors of our local street foods.
As a proud Guyanese, I often reminisce about the simple pleasures of life here—whether it's sharing a plate of chicken lowmein (yes, just low for us!) with friends or enjoying the breathtaking views along the Pomeroon River. I believe in nurturing the curiosity of my students by connecting their learning to our diverse culture and history, including the great traditions of the Amerindian peoples and the stories of our ancestors. It's vital for the next generation to appreciate where they come from and the vibrant community around them.
In my journey as an educator, I strive to foster a sense of belonging among my students—whether they are native to Guyana or part of our expansive diaspora. Like many of us, I hold dear the memories of street-side snacks, the warmth of family gatherings, and the laughter shared over a good meal. I am excited to contribute to a future where our children celebrate their Guyanese identity, no matter where life takes them.
