Greetings! My name is Orsen Matthews, and I am proud to call the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Located at 15 Henry Street on the Essequibo Coast, I am a dedicated fisherman, spending my days out on the water, embracing the natural beauty that surrounds me. My connection to the land and its waters is deep-rooted, much like the traditions of our vibrant Guyanese culture, from the spicy pepperpot to the sweet, satisfying coconut bread that warms the soul.
Guyana is often seen as a hidden gem, rich in cultural diversity and untapped potential. While some may debate our Caribbean identity, I believe it’s the fusion of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and European influences that makes our nation unique. The lively markets filled with fresh produce, the rhythmic sounds of local soca and chutney music, and our warm community gatherings reflect a heritage that I'm proud to share with my fellow Guyanese, both at home and abroad. As many in the diaspora will attest, there’s nothing quite like the taste of our local cuisine and the spirit of our people, bringing us all together, no matter where we are in the world.
