Greetings! My name is Oudit Narine, and I proudly call Wakenaam 09 Good Success in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a labourer, I am deeply connected to the land and the community, working hard to contribute to our local economy while preserving the rich cultural heritage of our beautiful nation. Guyana, with its lush rainforests, the majestic Essequibo River, and the vibrant markets filled with fresh fruits and spices, is truly a place like no other.
Culturally, I cherish our traditions, including the love for our diverse cuisine - from pepperpot to cook-up rice, and the sweet taste of cassava pone. The warmth of our people, reflected in our friendly greetings of "How gaat het?" and the many gatherings around local dishes, keeps our spirit alive. Despite the challenges we face, such as navigating our economy and keeping pace with development, the strength of our community and the support we offer each other is unshakeable.
Having connections with the diaspora has also enriched my experiences. Knowing that Guyanese people worldwide, whether in Suriname or beyond, carry a piece of home with them is a source of pride. Together, we celebrate our roots, support each other, and hope for a brighter future for our homeland. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
