Hello! I’m Ranittta Alberts-Englis, a dedicated farmer from the lush Pomeroon region in Guyana. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, my community thrives on the rich, fertile lands that produce some of the freshest fruits and vegetables in the country. I take pride in cultivating crops that not only feed my family and neighbors but also connect us to our vibrant culture. The flavors of Guyana, from the spicy pepperpot to the sweet cassava, are close to my heart, and I believe we have the best West Indian food variation overall in the Caribbean!
Growing up in a place like Pomeroon has shaped my identity, where the sounds of the river and the sights of lush greenery are part of everyday life. Whether it’s the lively chatter in the market or sharing stories with fellow farmers by the riverside, these experiences have instilled in me a deep appreciation for my roots. I often reminisce about the camaraderie with others from my community, like those from River Cockroach Hill, as we celebrate our shared heritage and the joys of living in harmony with nature.
Having lived part of my life in the United States, I cherish the connections I maintain with the Guyanese diaspora. It reminds me that even though we may be far from home, our love for the land and its culture is something we carry with us wherever we go. I am committed to promoting sustainable farming practices that honor our traditions while ensuring that future generations can enjoy the bounties of our beautiful Pomeroon.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
